Dear Governor Blagojevich:
The League of Women Voters of Illinois urges you to sign SB 121 - Sex Offender Registration Act as it applies to juvenile delinquents.
SB 121 acknowledges the intent of the juvenile court act by adapting the law to juveniles, providing for a hearing to terminate registration, specifying how information can be removed from the registry, and applying the act retroactively.
SB 121 addresses public safety by requiring an initial registration, specifying issues to be considered before registration can be terminated and, above all, by providing an incentive for good behavior.
SB 121 successfully balances concerns that have been raised on this sensitive issue and merits your support.
