Sample questions for candidate forums: |
- How have you actively solicited public comment on school funding and tax reform issues? Have you done this through meetings
with local school boards, district superintendents, public forums, public mailings, websites, etc? Please explain.
(In other words, have you made direct contact with the affected bodies?)
- Unique financial hardships have been imposed on school districts within your legislative district such as tax caps, TIF
districts, rapidly increasing enrollment, unfunded state and federal mandates, and increasing costs, including the growing
cost of educating students with special needs. What current policies are you supporting or have you introduced this session
to help these districts resolve the issues confronting them?
- What are your views on the way that Illinois funds public education? What current bills are you supporting or have you
introduced this session that will improve how Illinois funds its public education system?
- Please address the achievement gap- between white and minority students, and between students in property wealthy and
property poor communities- in your district and throughout Illinois. What policies would you support to boost student achievement
in your district and statewide?
- What are your views on the Illinois tax structure? Do you agree that the current tax structure in Illinois is not adequate to
provide basic education and social needs?
