On October 30, 2008 students in Illinois and throughout the
United States will participate in a mock Presidential election
sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education
Fund in cooperation with the National Student/Parent Mock Election.

Educating the Leaders of Tomorrow
Students who become involved with the election process at a young age learn that their actions count!
Illinois Student Vote is designed for classes from kindergarten through high school.
What is a Mock Election?
Participating classes undertake activities to study the candidates and issues of the 2008 election.
They then will be able to make informed decisions as they vote for candidates in a simulated election
on October 30, 2008. Individual class and school vote totals will be reported to the Illinois Student
Vote headquarters where they will be tallied with returns from across the state and country.
A Valuable Teaching Tool
Illinois Student Vote is a valuable teaching tool designed to increase awareness and understanding of
the election process, to encourage students and their parents to get involved in the election process
and, ultimately, to create a generation of voting adults.
All participating teachers will receive age-appropriate curriculum plans to help them:
- Create a classroom election forum;
- Debate current events;
- Integrate government with reading and math;
- Develop critical thinking skills;
- Promote discussions between students and parents.
