State Children’s Insurance Program (SCHIP)
Since this Action Alert, S.275 passed the U. S. Senate. It had previously passed the House. The two bills are now in conference committee to be reconciled.
ACTION: Call your U. S. Senators to vote YES on S.275 for SCHIP
Senator Richard Durbin 202-224-2152
Senator Roland Burris 202-224-2854
The U. S. Senate will likely vote on reauthorization of the State Children’s Insurance Program (SCHIP) this week. SCHIP has provided access to health care coverage for six million low income children since its inception. S.275 is a
stand-alone expansion bill, which includes additional funding for states to expand their programs to more children and to
restore coverage benefits to legal immigrants under 21.
LWVUS supports reauthorization of SCHIP as part of the League’s long-held position on universal access to health
scare. (See full text of LWVUS President Mary Wilson’s recent letter HERE).
Please call today. We count on each of you to take action. Thank you!
