UPDATE
Thank you to everyone who called their Congress member and asked them to oppose the Johnson Amendment to HR 822, The National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. I’m happy to update you all that the amendment was not allowed out of committee so that part of this bad public policy was stopped. We still have more to do! DON’T WAIT- CALL your representative and ask them to vote against HR 822.
HR 822 Undermines State laws: This legislation would undermine individual state’s right to determine their own laws by mandating that states allow the carrying of concealed loaded weapons by anyone permitted in another state. It would allow for visitors to carry concealed weapons, even if they have not met that state’s standards. It would reduce all states to the “lowest common denominator” of concealed carry laws
The legislation also forces states to allow untrained, out-of-state visitors to carry concealed weapons. According to the Violence Policy Center , Concealed Carry Permit Holders have shot and killed more than 300 people, including almost a dozen law enforcement officials in the past four years (www.vpc.org/ccwkillers.htm)
