LWVUS Consensus: Response from Local Leagues
LWVIL Immigration Study 2005-2007
Pending Legislation on Immigration

The League of Women Voters is nearing the end of its two-year National Immigration Study that was approved at the 2006 LWVUS Convention in Minneapolis. A goal of this study was to help communities understand the implications of immigration at various levels: local, state and federal.

As part of this project, League members and leaders have been exploring the underlying values and principles of immigration, reasons for immigration, current federal immigration policy, and the impact of immigration in American society.

Now it is time for local Leagues in Illinois and across the country to prepare to take consensus on this National Study. Local Leagues should download the information below, reassemble their immigration study groups, set a date for a consensus meeting, and then send in their consensus reports to the LWVUS by February 1, 2008.

LWVIL has the advantage of completing a state study on immigration, and many local Illinois Leagues have members knowledgeable on immigration issues who should be able to review this information easily, and the consensus meetings should go smoothly.
