On September 21, 2016, the League of Women Voters of Illinois will host its annual State of the State Luncheon at the Union League Club in Chicago. This year’s theme: “Democracy Goes Back to School: Celebrating Civics Education in Illinois,” highlights the passage of HB4025 which creates a high school civics curriculum requirement. (Illinois had not required a specific civics course for decades.)
We are honoring the McCormick Foundation and its program officer, Shawn Healy, for their contribution to supporting professional development for teacher training in civics education throughout Illinois.
We are delighted that Cheryl Corley, an NPR correspondent on the National Desk in Chicago has agreed to keynote our September 21st event.
Please mark your calendars and join us for this event.
This annual event celebrates the League's accomplishments and is a key component of our fundraising activity. Proceeds from the luncheon support our 501(c)(3) Education Fund and its mission of civic education and voter service.
Ticket sales for this event are now closed.
