We’re registering voters.
We’re fighting mis/disinformation.
We’re increasing voter turnout.

Support our vital nonpartisan work for Illinois’ 2024 election cycle!

We welcome your support for the League’s Campaign to Safeguard Democracy. Our goal is to raise at least $75,000 to fund our get-out-the-vote efforts, statewide online voter guide, candidate forums, and campaigns to fight misinformation and disinformation.

Choose Where Your Contribution Goes

THE LWVIL Fund

The League of Women Voters of Illinois is a 501(c)(4) organization. Money given to LWVIL can be used for office supplies, staff, advocacy work, general operating expenses, and other growth initiatives. This donation is not tax-deductible, so it’s great for donors who use the standard deduction on their federal income taxes.

The LWVIL Education Fund

The League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund (LWVILEF) is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations to the Education Fund support voter education services and voter service activities. Donations to this fund are tax-deductible, perfect for those who itemize their deductions on their federal income taxes, want to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from their IRA, or wish to donate appreciated securities.

Here’s What Your Donation Can Do

  • $100 buys printing and postage for 100 postcards

  • $1,000 buys a full year of smart voter data access for all Illinois Leagues

  • $2,500 buys a month of billboard advertising for LWVIL

  • $5,000 buys two months of salary for an intern to help with GOTV work

More Ways to Give

Donate By Check

Make your check out to LWVIL—or, if tax deductibility is important to you, make your check out to LWVILEF, our Education Fund. Mail your check to 332 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 634, Chicago, Illinois 60604.

Donate Appreciated Securities

By donating appreciated securities to the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund (EIN: 36 - 3037231), you can receive a tax deduction for the current fair market value of the asset while avoiding capital gains tax. Essentially, you can give more money to the League and less to taxes. Contact your brokerage/financial services company for more information.

Leverage Your IRA

Donors age 70½ or older can transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA directly to the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund (EIN: 36-3037231) without being subject to income taxes on the distribution. This effectively makes the distribution a deductible gift. Furthermore, if you are at an age where you must take a required minimum distribution (RMD), a gift directly from your IRA reduces the amount of the RMD that otherwise would be taxable income on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Contact your IRA administrator for more information.

Estate Plan Gifts

You can leave a strong legacy with an estate plan gift to the League. To make a gift of a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, work with your estate lawyer to draft or amend your estate plan to include the following words in your will:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the League of Women Voters of Illinois, 332 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 634, Chicago, Illinois 60604-4422 (insert amount or gift being given here) to be used in support of the mission of the League of Women Voters of Illinois.”

Additionally, you can name the League of Women Voters of Illinois as the beneficiary on funds, or individual stocks and bonds in your portfolio. Work with your investment advisor or the company that holds your portfolio to update your account beneficiary.

The League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL) is a 501(c)(4), so gifts are not tax deductible. The League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund (LWVILEF) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization (EIN: 36 - 3037231). Please consult your tax advisor regarding tax deductibility.

If you have questions about any of these options or would like to speak with someone about your giving, please email support@lwvil.org.
