Come learn about the newest Fair Maps initiative at our January "Defending Democracy Drop-In."

Barbara Laimins, LWVIL Issue Specialist for Election Law, will explain the Fair Maps Illinois Redistricting Project. LWV of Illinois has joined a bi-partisan group to promote a more fair method for the required ten-year redistricting that will occur after the 2030 Census results are available. It involves circulating petitions for an amendment to the Illinois Constitution and it will only affect Illinois General Assembly districts. (This is unrelated to the current Congressional redistricting efforts that have been in the news in other states.)

Attendees will learn the reasons why an improved method is needed in Illinois, and petitions will be available for signing and circulating. This is democracy in action; Join us!
