Representing LWV at the United Nations (LWV Deerfield/Lincolnshire)

Please join us on Zoom as Jane Ruby, President of the League of Women Voters of Chicago, describes her experience serving as a member of the League of Women Voters of the U.S. delegation of special observers to the United Nations Economic and Social Council's 70th annual Commission on the Status of Women, which took place in New York over 10 days in March 2026.

The League of Women Voters was a supporter of the United States joining the United Nations in 1945 and has enjoyed the status of “Special Observer” to the U.N. Economic and Social Council since its founding.

Member states came together for the 70th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), over 10 days in March at the UN Headquarters in New York. It is the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s rights.

The priority theme of CSW70, “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls”, addressed what legal inequality means in life, and recommended actions to close the gap.
